Mission Statement

The Dokis First Nation Band Council is mandated by the membership and dedicated to improving the quality of health and the well being of the community.

Through local management, health services delivery focuses on a holistic approach offering western and traditional healing choices. The complimentary relationship between the two healing traditions impacts on disease prevention, facilitation of recovery from illness and enhancement of well-being.

By concentrating on awareness, skills development, disease prevention, health promotion and community development, the individual and the community will make a personal commitment in improving the quality of life.

Health Director

Job Components: Research initiatives and write proposals to expand local community services and to address present and future needs of the community. Provides supervision, personal and functional support to Health workers through coordination of a teamwork approach in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs. Prepares and submits financial and program reports to funders and local leadership.

Bernadette Restoule
Community Diabetes Educator

Education: University Bachelor of Arts Degree Cambrian College- Diabetes Education Program Certificate

I have been working at the Dokis health Centre for nine years as the Community Diabetes Educator. The focus of the diabetes programs is education and prevention by encouraging healthy lifestyles. Because of the very high incidence of diabetes in the community, activity challenges both in the community and with neighbouring communities have been initiated. It is hoped that by promoting healthy living the effects of diabetes will be lessened and the incidence will be lessened in futures generations.

Medical Transportation Driver

I have been with Health Department since 1994.

My job is provide medical transportation for on reserve band members.



Denise Dokis
Program Support Clerk

I have been in this postition for over 11 years now.
I process the long Distance Travel for Medical Appointments
in Toronto, Ottawa, etc.

I take care of the Medical Transportation for the Community.

I have been here since April 1, 1998. My duties include prevention programs, referrals, liaison, client advocates.

My education is a 2 year diploma at Cambrian College in the Native Community Care Counseling and Development.

Sandra Dokis

Drug & Alcohol Prevention Worker

Employment History:   Employed as the Drug & Alcohol Prevention Worker at the Dokis Health Center as of June 28, 2004.

Education: Honours Bachelor of Social Work- Native Human Services

Services Provided:  referrals and support to drug, tobacco and alcohol treatment service.

Coordinates, implements and administers community prevention, promotion and awareness programs for prevention of addictions such as drug, alcohol, tobacco, and gambling.

Charlene Dokis

Community Health Representative

Education: Honors Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology (2004) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management (2005).

Scope of Duties:  To promote healthy lifestyles, awareness and education through Healthy Babies Healthy Children Programs, Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program, HIV/AIDS, and various topics educating a variety of ages groups within the community.

To work collaboratively with the Environmental Health Officer, ensuring water safety, environmental issues (ie. dog bites, rabies reports, west nile monitoring, etc..), and submission of summer employment for two students to work under Green Plan.  To provide assisstance and support to special needs clients.  To provide and maintain supportive care to the elderly, chronic or frail through home visits.
